Why Urbania?

Who decides the city shape nowadays? The governing board does? The technicians do?
Might it be that the contemporary urban areas are bodies capable of getting organized, refusing any town planning attempts?
In the past, the strain between the town planning and the city growth due to the individual, the history and the market created miscellaneous outcomes.
This range goes from the utopian ideal cities to the ethics and aesthetics poorness caused by uncontrolled urban development.
Today the local communities who are involved with the planning process, have the chance to learn from trips and accomplishments achieved in the past. The debate about the development of planning policy and practice is going ahead and helps the communities to influence decisions that affect their neighbourhood and life.
Urbania aims precisely to find a way to make places that work better for everyone who lives, works or visits them. It’s a festival born as a place to exchange views and open a new dialogue, between decision makers and city dwellers.
This interaction will lead to fundamental changes to the way that the country plans and manages development. The four main actors need to make common cause:

-The Decision Makers, who is in charge to overlook and act as go between dissenting requests;

-The technicians, urban planners, architects and urban mobility experts who must handle interdisciplinary tasks that increase fast in complexity;

-The intellectuals, who grasp drives and tensions of society. These latters analyse and widen them; therefore, seen under a new light, they make them expressed;

-The city dwellers, who are progressively involved and aware, directly or thanks to district committees and associations. They work to empower local communities and verify the effective work done.

These persons will gather in Bologna and interact in different ways: meeting, lectures, seminars, and debates. Three intense and profitable days to better understand in what kind of cities will live in the next few years.
